I will preface this by saying that all of the schools that I work with are schools which operate with the Google Suite so the instructions and advice given here are with that in mind.
You can find Google Chrome extensions in the Chrome Web Store. These extensions can be added to the browser on individual Chromebooks or added by the school administrator. These are just some extensions which you wish to add to the class Chromebooks. Even better - these ones are free!
This is a Microsoft product which someone has adapted to work on Google Chrome. It is a MUST HAVE tool for learners who struggle with reading but is also a useful tool for fluent readers. You can select a piece of text on any site and make it easier to read in the following ways:
change the page background and colour
increase or decrease line and letter spacing
choose how much text shows at one time
translate the text into another language
change the font size and style
highlight different parts of speech
picture dictionary to explain unknown words

It also removes the grid of recommended videos that appear on your homepage. These settings are all configurable. It can also hide comments and disable playlists sitewide.
This is an extension you may wish to turn on when sharing YouTube videos with the class. When you load up YouTube, it will look like this rather than loading suggestions. This means you have to specifically look for a website.
This will stop the ads playing at the beginning and during YouTube videos. It will stop other ads too.

To create a free account go to Canva for Education, click on the 'Get Verified' button for teachers and follow the steps. You will need a copy of your teacher registration.
